WikiFlow Privacy Policy

WikiFlow is a local-first Wikipedia discovery application. It helps users explore Wikipedia through a personalized flow, saved pages, quiz surfaces, nearby discovery, and optional audio experiences.

Data stored on this device

WikiFlow stores some information locally on the user's device so the experience can feel personal without requiring an account:

• liked, saved, and disliked article signals
• saved article metadata such as title, page ID, description, thumbnail URL, and language
• compact saved-article reading text used for the local/offline library
• search history
• reading and session signals used to tune the local interest profile
• language, theme, reading mode, and panel preferences

This local profile is not a cloud account. Users can clear local data from inside the app. The Android build disables operating-system cloud backup for the app profile; portability is user-initiated through explicit export/import controls.

Wikipedia and network requests

WikiFlow retrieves article summaries, images, search results, language links, timeline data, and nearby article results from Wikipedia and Wikimedia services. These requests may include selected Wikipedia language, search terms or article titles, article IDs or page titles, and coordinates when the user chooses Nearby and grants location permission.

Third-party services

WikiFlow may load article media from Wikimedia upload hosts, contextual open audio from Wikimedia Commons, and display optional links that open Google Maps outside the app. The app or web build may request display fonts from Google Fonts. These services receive the standard technical information needed to deliver their content, such as IP address, browser or device details, and the requested URL.

Location

Nearby discovery is optional. When the user opens Nearby and grants permission, WikiFlow may use approximate or precise foreground location to request nearby Wikipedia pages. WikiFlow does not request background location. If permission is denied or unavailable, WikiFlow can use manual place search where supported.

Audio

WikiFlow may provide narration, summary, or podcast-style audio. Audio can use device speech or a WikiFlow-managed narration service. If the narration service is enabled, the article text needed for the selected audio mode may be sent to that service to generate audio.

The managed narration service may cache generated audio to reduce repeated provider calls. Cache manifests should use redacted hashes and operational metadata, not provider keys or raw narration text.

No ads, accounts, or sale of data

This build does not include account registration, advertising ID use, contact access, camera access, microphone recording, or sale of personal data.

User controls

Users can change app language and reading preferences, clear all local WikiFlow data on this device, separately clear search history, export or import a local WikiFlow backup, deny location permission, and use the app without an account.
